School Messenger
School Messenger is a mobile platform for schools to connect and engage with parents and the wider community. I was commissioned to lead the visual and interaction design, creating a refreshed mobile experience and a foundational visual style guide to support development consistency across devices.
Drawing from the app’s core values of being friendly, open, and fluid, I reimagined the interface through vibrant colors, clean typography, and intuitive user flows. From brand iconography to broadcast creation, every detail was designed to make communication effortless, modern, and emotionally engaging.

01
Concept Exploration
The design process began with three conceptual themes that explored different emotional tones and visual personalities. Percussion focused on bold color and rhythm, Whistle emphasized clarity and playfulness, and Ambient captured a sense of openness, lightness, and transparency. These studies helped define the overall design language and guided the final direction toward something friendly, fluid, and approachable.
Early explorations included moodboards and interface sketches to establish the right balance between trust and playfulness. The goal was to create a platform that felt welcoming and energetic while maintaining the professionalism expected from a communication tool used by schools.

02
Visual Direction
From the initial concept work, I developed a visual system grounded in openness and clarity. Rounded shapes, subtle gradients, and a bright, Crayola-inspired color palette reflected the warmth and energy of the educational community.

03
App Icon and Branding
I proposed an evolved brand identity featuring overlapping, fluid shapes to represent the many voices within a connected school network. The new icon and logo direction modernized the product while maintaining its familiar, approachable feel.

04
UI and Experience Design
I designed the entire broadcast creation flow, simplifying the process for administrators to record, preview, and send messages. Each step was refined for usability, allowing even first-time users to communicate easily and confidently.

05
Motion and Visual System
A subtle horizontal “horizon line” became a recurring visual element. It separated content zones and animated as a waveform when users recorded audio broadcasts, creating a natural sense of feedback and liveliness throughout the interface.
